Sampai akhirnya lahirlah Sony Xperia Z2a yang tetap mengusung spesifikasi sama, namun hanya berbekal casing berbahan plastik. Maka tidak heran Sony Xperia Z2a dijuluki sebagai smartphone terjangkau dari versi Xperia Z2. Namun tidak usah khawatir, meskipun lebih murah fitur tetap selengkap Sony Xperia Z2.

Untuk layarnya sendiri berukuran lebih kecil sedikit yakni 5.0 inci dengan resolusi tetap full HD 1920x1080 piksel kerapatan 441 ppi dan menggunakan jenis IPS plus Triluminos display. Di sektor hardware juga sangat mumpuni berkat processor Qualcomm MSM8974AB Snapdragon 801 Quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400 dibarengi GPU Adreno 330 dan RAM sebesar 3 GB. Sayang Sony Xperia Z2a memiliki kelemahan pada kamera depannya yang sekedar VGA dan baterai yang dikurangi sedikit dari versi aslinya yakni jadi 3000 mAH saja.
